How to construct a Complex Sentence?

Hello!
That is a great question! A complex sentence contains one independent clause (a sentence that can stand alone) and one or more dependent clauses (a group of words that cannot stand alone as a sentence and depends on the independent clause).
Parts of a Complex Sentence:
- Independent Clause: A complete sentence that can stand alone. (e.g., I went to the store.)
- Dependent Clause: Begins with a subordinating conjunction (because, although, when, since, if, etc.) and provides additional information. It cannot stand alone. (e.g., because I needed groceries.)
Complex Sentence Formula:
- Independent Clause + Subordinating Conjunction + Dependent Clause
- OR: Subordinating Conjunction + Dependent Clause + , + Independent Clause
Examples of Complex Sentences
- Since it was late, I decided to go home.
- If you want to succeed, you have to work hard.
- I was excited because my team won the match.
- She didn't go to the party although she was invited.
- The teacher was explaining the lesson while the students took notes.
I hope this helps!
