How to correct a Comma Splice?

Hi there
Thank you for your question. In order to correct a comma splice, the following can be done:
- Remove the comma and replace it with a period, thus creating two separate sentences.
- Remove the comma and replace it with a semicolon. This showw the reader that the two clauses are related to one another, but are separate.
- Add a coordinating conjunction or sub coordinating conjunction after the comma. Coordinating conjunctions include “for,” “and,” “nor,” “but,” “or,” “yet,” “so” (FANBOYS).
In the case of the sentence provided by yourself; I went to the store, I forgot to buy milk; this can be changed as follows:
I went to the store but forgot to buy milk.
I hope this helps you and I look forward to any further questions you may have.
