How to pronoucne "is"?

Hi! I overheard my son practicing his reading aloud and noticed he was unsure about how to pronounce the word "is." To help him improve, I wanted to ask you for the correct pronunciation.

Thank you for your question. In English, it is important to remember and know the alphabet sounds of the letters instead of the letter names. Knowing the sounds of each letter will help in knowing how to sound out words. The word 'is' is pronounced exactly how it is written. When saying the 'i' sound, it is the same sound as in 'igloo', 'ink' or 'indoor'. Then, the 's' sound is the same sound as in 'snake' or 'sun'.
