How to pronounce "Ä" with two dots over it?
Great day to you. During a friendly chat with a fellow parent at the school gate, they mentioned how their child had trouble with the pronunciation of the letter "Ä". Please explain.

Hello! English doesn't have a native Ä sound like German or Swedish, so the pronunciation often adapts to fit English phonetic patterns based on the word's origin and usage context.

Ä is often considered the simplest umlaut to pronounce, as there is an equivalent sound in English. Like all German vowels, the A umlaut has a short pronunciation and a long pronunciation. The short pronunciation is like the E in the English word “set.” Lengthen the sound to form the long pronunciation of Ä.
