What is a fragment sentence example?
Hi Salma is working on her English homework about sentence fragments. She need to create three examples, but she is not sure how to spot a fragment or what makes a sentence fragment different from a complete sentence.

Hi there!

It’s great that Salma is working on her English homework! Understanding sentence fragments is super important, and I’m here to help her out.

A sentence fragment is like a sentence that isn’t finished. It’s missing something important, like who or what it’s about or what’s happening.

How to Spot a Fragment:

  • Does It Feel Unfinished? If a sentence feels like something’s missing, it’s probably a fragment. For example, "Ran to the store." (Who ran?)
  • No Complete Thought: If the sentence doesn’t tell the whole story, it’s a fragment. Like, "When it started raining." (What happened when it started raining?)

Examples for Salma:
Here are three fragments Salma can use:

  • "In the middle of the night."
  • "After the party."
  • "Jumping over the fence."

These sentences don’t tell the whole story, so they’re fragments.

Complete Sentences:

  • "In the middle of the night, the cat started meowing loudly."
  • "After the party, we cleaned up the house and went to bed."
  • "Jumping over the fence, the dog raced across the yard."

Hope this helps, Salma! You’re doing great!
