What is the difference between "lose" and "loose"?
Bom dia! While helping my daughter with her spelling homework, there was the words "loose" and "lose," and she asked me to explain the difference. I thought I'd ask for your help.

Hello,

This is a very good question, and many people get confused between these two words.

To "lose" is a verb that means to "fail to win / be unable to find something/someone / to stop having or owning something" - for example, "I am going to lose that race" or "They always lose their keys" or "He will lose his house if he doesn't pay the mortgage". It is pronounced as "looz".

However "loose" is an adjective used to describe something that is not tight - for example "My belt is loose". It is pronounced as "loos".

I really hope that this explanation helps you
