Greetings to you, Lyn Tamimi.

‘Phrase’ simply means a combination of two or more words. The meaning and use of a word in a sentence change when it is combined with another word/words.

For instance, ‘The woman helps the man.’ 'Woman'  and 'man'  in this sentence are words.

Making them phrases would be like this, ‘The YOUNG WOMAN helps the OLD MAN.' Using the phrases ‘young woman’ and ‘old man’ changes how we imagine the scene. It adds more details and context to the sentence.
