Since the word rough is a multiple-meaning word, it also have different opposites in different contexts.

A. rough- an adjective used to describe something having an uneven or bumpy surface

opposites: flat, smooth, sleek

Sentence: The rock feels rough and it might hurt you, while the screen of your smartphone is smooth so you can scroll on it with your thumb for hours.

B. rough- an adjective used to describe a person having a violent or aggressive personality

opposites: gentle, careful, cultured, civilized, kind

Sentence: Some parents are gentle with their kids when they are reprimanding them because being rough is never the right way to handle children.
