When to use "Alum" vs "Alumni"?

"Alum" and "Alumni" are both used as nouns in a sentence. The difference is that "alum" is used as a singular noun that can either be pertaining to a male or a female graduate. On the contrary, "alumni" is used as a plural noun that can either be for neutral gender or male graduates.
Sentences:
> Her grandchild is an alum at her alma mater.
> She received an invitation to attend a party dedicated to all the alumni who graduated 10 years ago.
